The Center for Craniofacial & Dental Sleep Medicine (CFDSM), a Houston-based company specializing in dental sleep medicine and sleep apnea treatment, has received FDA clearance on its treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and snoring, The Meridian PM oral appliance.

According to CFDSM, by holding the lower jaw in a more comfortable position, the Meridian PM eliminates the potential jaw pain and changes in the patient’s bite often experienced with traditional oral appliance therapy. It effectively treats snoring, obstructive sleep apnea, and associated breathing symptoms by stabilizing the lower jaw and training the tongue to stay forward, maintaining a clear upper airway during sleep. The natural result is a decrease in the frequency and duration of apneic and hypopnea events, including snoring.

“Current treatments for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea come with their own disadvantages and side effects,” says Samuel E. Cress, DDS, founder and director of CFDSM, in a release. “So, we were looking for a fresh and innovative approach that would eliminate these side effects and improve patient compliance for long term results and better quality of life.  FDA clearance is strong validation that the Meridian PM has clinical merit for treatment of snoring and OSA.”
