“Sleep Profiler assists clinicians in identifying patients who will likely benefit from CBT-I and those who may have an underlying medical condition causing the insomnia symptoms that requires further evaluation,” stated Dr Philip R. Westbrook, chief medical officer, Advanced Brain Monitoring, and past?president, American Academy of Sleep Medicine. InsomniCare helps clinicians improve the treatment of their patients while complying with the recent FDA drug safety warning to lower the daily dosage of Ambien and similar insomnia drugs by 50% in order to reduce the risk of next-morning impairment.

“Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) is considered the first-choice for treatment of chronic insomnia,” explains Dr Michael T. Smith, co-director, Johns Hopkins Center for Sleep-Related Symptom Science and president of the Society of Behavioral Sleep Medicine. “Web-based CBT-I allows patients to learn how to change sleep behaviors which contribute to insomnia without having to take time off for treatment. Sleep Profiler allows clinicians to apply a stepped-approach to identify the many patients who will be effectively treated with online CBT-I and recognize those who may need to be referred to a qualified behavioral sleep medicine specialist.”

InsomniCare is an integrated program that includes a web-based screening questionnaire to characterize the severity of an individual’s perceived insomnia symptoms. A Sleep Profiler study is then conducted in the comfort of the patient’s home. Sleep Profiler is a non-intrusive, user-friendly, patented technology cleared by the FDA for the neurological and cardiovascular assessment of sleep quality. The sleep study data are reviewed by a sleep medicine specialist after upload and, when recommended, web-based CBT-I is ordered through the integrated web-portal. The portal allows for ongoing clinician monitoring of progress, and concludes with a follow-up Sleep Profiler study to confirm that the patient’s sleep patterns are in the normal range.

“InsomniCare is a significant advancement in the management of insomnia,” stated Daniel J. Levendowski, president of Advanced Brain Monitoring. “It improves quality-of-care by providing clinicians a cost-effective means to confirm the patient’s sleep complaints with an objective assessment of sleep quality. It addresses an important gap in provider coverage resulting from a shortage of qualified behavioral sleep therapists with web-based CBT-I. Our cloud-based, integrated system now enables insomnia assessment and treatment to be delivered nationwide in a medical home model.”
