DeVilbiss Healthcare has won the 2014 Better Business Bureau (BBB) Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics for mid-size companies in western Pennsylvania.

“DeVilbiss is in a highly regulated industry, but goes beyond the minimum level of regulations to demonstrate their concern for customers, employees, and the community,” says Dr Virginia Gerde, associate professor of management & ethics at Duquesne University and judge for the Torch Awards, in a release. “They obviously take the long-term view for their company being a responsible member of our community for a long time.”

Each company nominated was required to submit answers to a series of questions regarding decision-making, marketing and solicitations, recognition and awards, history and reputation, and return to the community. All submissions were reviewed by an independent panel of judges, who ultimately chose DeVilbiss Healthcare for the mid-size company category.

“The judges’ feedback was consistent,” says Warren King, president of the BBB of Western PA. “DeVilbiss Healthcare clearly goes above and beyond to exceed marketplace standards for ethics in its relationships with customers, employees, suppliers, industry peers, and the communities in which it does business.”

Ed Murphy, president and CEO of DeVilbiss Healthcare, says, “We are honored to have been chosen as a winner for the 2014 Better Business Bureau Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics. Knowing every effort in our day directly affects the lives of others, we strive to be a company of individuals who try harder, work smarter, and embrace the true value of innovation. Earning the Torch Award is one more way we can show our customers our level of dedication.”

The BBB conducts this annual awards program to gain public recognition for companies that maintain a solid commitment to conducting their business practices in an ethical manner. Each year, companies of different sizes are selected from 28 counties in western Pennsylvania to receive the Torch Awards for Marketplace Ethics.
