AirAvant Medical Inc, a newly formed company created from the former partners of InnoMed Technologies Inc, launches the Bongo Rx. Bongo Rx is an FDA 510k cleared device for the treatment of mild to moderate obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).
The Bongo Rx seals in the nose and works by creating back pressure when an OSA sufferer exhales. This is known as expiratory positive airway pressure or EPAP. It doesn’t require a power source or headgear. It is small enough to be carried in a shirt pocket.
“We recognize that people need to have the ability to sleep comfortably and safely, no matter where they are—in a bed, on a train, in a car, or even catching a quick nap in a chair,” says Javier Collazo, vice president of AirAvant Medical, in a release. “Bongo Rx is so small and so easy to use that those suffering from sleep apnea no longer have to worry about bulky, cumbersome equipment or conspicuous masks. This technologically-advanced device allows users to enjoy safe sleep while receiving OSA therapy.”
The Bongo Rx will be exhibiting at Medtrade (new product pavilion booth #1448) from Oct 15-17.

hi,
i would like to read your scientific article on the device and order some to do a trial with my patients.
thank
this is sort of reminisce of a prior device Provent.
You’re right it is similar to ProVent, but it looks reusable.
Bongo Rx is FDA approved to treat mild/moderate OSA. It is reusable and recommended replacement cycle is every 90 days. The product can be simply cleaned using mild soap and rinse with water then let it dry out.
Thank you for your interest in Bongo Rx.
I also treat obstructive sleep apnea and snoring and would like to receive your scientific literature and a few samples.

This is Basically a reusable provent. Hard to breath just like provent. If you can tolerate it it may work. Not for me.
Hugh,
I’m one of the founders of the Bongo Rx product and thank you for your comments. Your assessment is correct in part. Provent produces EPAP and so do Bongo Rx to treat mild/moderate sleep apnea. The “work of breathing” issues you point out in Provent are documented on numerous sites. However EPAP is clinically proven to provide efficacious treatment for OSA. Bongo Rx mechanically produces EPAP with a much lower work of breathing, is reusable, does not require an adhesive to apply to the patient and clinically proven via trials submitted to the FDA to treat OSA. The studies we are currently doing will be published which also will show that the device is much easier to breath on compared to Provent – Theravent type devices and more comfortable for the patients to use on a routine basis as well as less expensive.
Sincerely,
Ron
What is the cost? And where will it be available?
I found Provent to be very effective in completely eliminating my snoring, and had no issues breathing with it. Now that it is no longer available I am looking forward to using the Bongo. Your experience is not everyone’s experience Hugh!
Please send me info on this product.

About 6 years back(2013) I met with an bike accident and since then some stiffness over muscles was there but all reports was normal now from 2017 onwards pain started in that area and again I went to neurologist,ENT,Eye specialist,Dentist for extraction of 3rd moular,TMJ specialist, maxofacial surgeon they said there is nothing wrong with you after all scans and clinical examination but was not cured then again I met with a carno facial pain specialist who said I’m having a sleep apnea with a sleep index of 6.1 per hour, whether this can cause constant chronic pain in my temporal area since last 2.5years?,if so then what things should I do to get cured?
Bongo Rx is FDA cleared to treat mild/moderate sleep apnea. To get more information you can visit the website at http://www.airavant.com and download the materials under the “patient/provider” tab. Take that information to your physician and discuss with them if Bongo Rx would be an appropriate treatment.
Thank you
How will I know if the Bongo Rx is Working for me?
Your spouse will not wake you up and tell you that you are snoring! 🙂
You can arrange an at home sleep apnea test through an online center. I purchased Bongo through Singular Sleep. If I like it, I’ll follow up with a home sleep apnea test through them. It will be my first home test.
Is there a HCPCS code to bill Medicare and other insurance? If so what is the code and reimbursement?
Thank you
Currently there is not a HCPC code associated with Bongo Rx. Patients can file for reimbursement however under their HSA/FSA accounts.
I was a nightly user of Provent and am now trying out Bongo.
Pro: it is in fact easier to breathe than Provent, and I definitely sleep better.
The two downsides: 1) it relies on a friction fit into your nostril. The Large size is too small for me so it is comfortable but comes out while I sleep. The XL is too big and uncomfortable for my nose. There is a head strap but that seems unlikely to stay put while I sleep.
2) The Bongo collects snot from my nose at night and gets filled up. This is a real problem that I’m not sure has a solution.
I was a long-term continuous user of Provent before it was discontinued. I have been trying Bongo Rx and found that it is not comparable to Provent. It could not build up the same level of pressure to suppress sleep apnea nor snoring. It is a disappointing device to me. It kept falling out of my nose every night until I use the strap. None of the sizes fits just right. Medium is too small, large is acceptable but still easy to fall off, and Exlg is too big. It would be much better if there are more pore sizes and also device sizes to choose from. Of course, it would even be better if Provent can be manufactured and provided again.
