Members of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) elected Fernando Stein, MD, FAAP, of Houston, Texas, as the organization’s new president-elect. He ran against pediatrician Lynda M. Young, MD, FAAP, of Worcester, Mass.

Stein is a founding member of the AAP Section on Critical Care and past member of the Council on Sections Management Committee and Committee on Membership, as well as one of the original members of the Task Force on Minorities. A native of Guatemala, he completed subspecialty training at Baylor College of Medicine-affiliated institutions.

Stein follows Benard P. Dreyer, MD, FAAP, of New York, who assumes the office of AAP president Jan 1, 2016. Stein becomes president on Jan 1, 2017.
