At SLEEP 2009, Patient Safety Inc debuted SatScreen, FDA-approved, pulse oximetry reporting software that allows sleep physicians to provide a plan for objective presurgical screening for sleep apnea.

With standard OSA screening questionnaires, patients with OSA can go undetected, but SatScreen provides an objective graphical record increasing post- and pre-operative OSA evaluations.

SatScreen works on two platforms. “The Patient Safety Connection Center operates on the local computer and is responsible for downloading stored oximetry data from the oximeter and preparing it for upload to SatScreen´s web services,” according to information from the company Web site. “The Connection Center then allows the user to quickly and easily bind patient, physician, and billing information with an oximetry study. The data is then communicated to SatScreen’s web-based services where users can log in to their personal profile via the Internet to review reports generated for stored tests.”

The product uses advanced pattern-based analysis software to identify and provide detailed information relating to cyclical patterns, nonevent- and event-related blood-oxygen desaturations, baseline oxygen saturation levels, arousal information, and artifact data, product literature from Patient Safety Inc stated.
