For the ninth consecutive year, Nihon Kohden has donated the proceeds from the sale of one of its EEG-1200A machines to benefit the American Epilepsy Society’s (AES) clinical and basic research fellowships. The EEG system was purchased by Greenville Health System, Greenville, SC, and 100% of the proceeds were presented to AES during the society’s annual meeting in Washington DC.

“Nihon Kohden’s gift is an investment in the future of epilepsy research and will fund new investigators with promising ideas,” Eli M. Mizrahi, MD, American Epilepsy Society president, says in a release. “We are grateful for their leadership and continued support in advancing our mission.”

Nihon Kohden’s support of AES is part of the organization’s fundraising efforts to support the society’s educational, research, and training offerings. Proceeds will be designated to support post-doctoral fellowships and early career grants awarded through the Lennox & Lombroso Trust and a clinical research training fellowship awarded through the Susan S. Spencer Fund.

“I have been using Nihon Kohden equipment for the majority of my career as an epileptologist, and I have witnessed first-hand how their top quality products have directly improved the lives of many of my patients,” says Andrea Hakimi, DO, clinical associate professor at the University of South Carolina Greenville and Director of the Greenville Health System Epilepsy Center. “Our entire team at Greenville Health System is honored to be a part of Nihon Kohden’s contribution to the ongoing fight to cure epilepsy.”

Nihon Kohden America vice president of alliances Kathy Hart, says, “Nihon Kohden is a proud supporter of AES and the important work the organization does every day to benefit patients. It is through research and education initiatives like this, as well as our presence in the country’s leading research institutions, that we are able to advance learning and knowledge in the field of epilepsy.”
