The CPT Editorial Panel has accepted a recommendation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) to create two new pediatric sleep CPT codes, according to an AASM announcement.

The new codes—for pediatric polysomnography and pediatric polysomnography with initiation of PAP—are designed for services rendered to patients younger than 6 years old. “Historically, notification of the outcome of CPT proposals was not made public until the publication of the subsequent year’s CPT codebook,” the AASM announcement stated. “This year, however, results of the February CPT meeting were published on the AMA website.”

The AASM notes that until the publication of the 2013 CPT codebook, the codes and wording are not finalized and may be subject to change.
