CMS and Medicare Learning Network recently published a 4-page fact sheet about sleep studies.
Based on the results of the OIG review of a sample of 200 randomly selected beneficiaries, the OIG found the most common type of error to be incomplete medical record documentation. Other types of errors included:

  • Documentation was missing or not provided
  • Attending technologist did not have required credentials or training certification
  • Payments for duplicative services
  • Incorrectly coded line of service
