Mackenzie Zorn, 16, of Carlsbad is the Narcolepsy Network Southern California Youth Ambassador, helping increase awareness of the sleep disorder, reports The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Mackenzie is very familiar with the stereotypes of people with narcolepsy suddenly dozing off or collapsing. “Definitely, people expect you to fall asleep,” she said, but narcolepsy doesn’t typically manifest that way. “It’s more of a slow progression of tiredness,” which caused her to sleep excessively during the day, and then be up all night.
