Ralph Lydic, MD, a board-certified anesthesiologist and distinguished professor in UT’s Psychology and Anesthesiology Departments, delivered a lecture last Friday on sleep in the perspectives of modern medicine, neuroscience, and society, reports The Daily Beacon.

“There have been nights when I haven’t gotten enough sleep and fell asleep in class. That caused me to miss some important notes during lecture,” said Ben Sweely, an undergraduate junior in the aerospace engineering major at UT.

However, the harm of sleep deprivation goes far beyond short-term effects like accidental naps at work or oversleeping for class.
