The United Kingdom’s National Health Service (NHS) conducted a record number of sleep diagnostic tests, reports the BBC.
“At one stage, my life was so awful because of how little sleep I was getting that I wanted to kill myself,” Carole Bennett, from Leeds, said.
“When I got tested for sleep apnoea the doctors found that whilst I was asleep, I’d stop breathing 27 times in just one hour.”
I wonder what percentage of those diagnosed with sleep apnoea then go forward to ask for gastric surgery? Costing the NHS millions. In a lot of cases, maybe mental health help and nutrition education would be a better, cheaper solution. And be a more effective, less harmful outcome for patients.
