Sleep specialist Frederic “Rick” Acevedo died after a long battle with renal cancer, reports the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“He fell in love with Pittsburgh the minute he came here,” his wife said. “He liked the hilly terrain and the milder weather and he thought it was very beautiful. We were looking everywhere, but he interviewed here and decided to stay and joined a pulmonary group at West Penn Hospital.”

He joined AIRMED — short for Associates in Respiratory Medicine — at West Penn Hospital, where he specialized in pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine.
