The Fresno Bee reports that the University of California San Francisco, Fresno, will offer a new 1-year fellowship in sleep medicine that will train doctors in the central San Joaquin Valley.

The program will train doctors with expertise in sleep disorders. It’s the 17th sub-specialty fellowship provided by the University of California at San Francisco-Fresno Medical Education Program.

“Sleep is as vital to overall health as diet and exercise. Yet, currently, there are only about 7,500 board-certified sleep physicians in the United States.” said Lynn Keenan, M.D., director of the UCSF Fresno Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program.
