A small group of people reported that marijuana relieved their restless legs syndrome, reports The Fresh Toast.
To be fair, there were a meager six subjects in the study. However, 5 of the 6 reported that smoking marijuana relieved their symptoms completely; one reported complete loss of RLS symptoms after using cannabidiol (CBD).
Researchers could not claim to understand why cannabis worked so well in the small group. They do suspect that it is related to the herb’s pain relieving properties and the effect could be enhanced by the sleepiness marijuana can induce.
While the researchers were not willing to fully endorse marijuana for those with restless leg syndrome, they admitted all subjects reported it was the most effective remedy they had tried so far.

I use the vaporized CBD and the BioCBDplus topical oil. They made a difference in my sleeping and reduction in my RLS symptoms. I have only been using for a short period, so far so good. – AJ
I was diagnosed with RLS, tried several of the Parkinson’s medications, and the side effects were awful. I was anti-marijuana my whole life; finally caved after significant research, and got my medical card (I’m in Arizona).
I swear it’s kept me from killing myself.
I use an Indica strain via vaporizer, and two “gummy bear” edibles, and I sleep through the night with almost no symptoms.
Don’t use the street stuff or Sativa strains. Won’t have the same effect as a heavy indica strain; in fact, it won’t work correctly, and the discomfort will remain.
I have suffered from RLS for decades. It affects me day and night. I have tried many different things to remedy this horrific malady. Requip works, but comes with many side effects that are not much better than the RLS.
I recently tried CBD oil under my tongue twice a day, It really has not done much to relieve the effects of RLS. I am wondering, no hoping, that someone can verify that regular marijuana might be what I am looking for.
What strains and forms are best? How can someone in Utah get what they need? Can you give me any other suggestions?
Have you not tried Pramipexole? I’ve used it since 1992 or so without taking a break, which surprised me. And I did use cannabis also over the years, but do try the pramipexole, it’s a miracle drug.
If you want the best sleep with your RLS completely under control, you’ll need Cannabis of the Indica variety. Ever hear of Kush? Your muscles will become so relaxed that you will literally have to will yourself into getting up because laying motionless will feel so damn blissfull. Needless to say RLS is no match against good Indica Marijuana. Trust me because I know just how uncomfortable & irritating RLS is. Indica is the way to go. Don’t waste another nights rest if you don’t have to. Pot doesn’t come with a hangover afterwards either.
Agreed……
Will marijuana help with the pain with out making me want to sleep a lot like in the day I want to be able to function ok to drive go out to eat and do things at home if you can help me with this. Thanks a Bunch
No, it’s not that strong and you will be unaware of it by morning. It won’t affect your day at all.
When I first started using cannabis in 1992 or so I realized immediately that after my RLS had forced me to get out of bed and move around, the cannabis would allow me to go back to bed and to sleep.
It’s hard to believe that such a medicine would remain unknown over the years but it did. Unfortunately it did not work as effectively after using in for a few years, and I went on to pramapexole, a real wonder drug, fantastic.
And I will add that I highly recommend cannabis in general as medicine for many purposes, having experienced it for 60 of my 81 years…….
