Manatee Memorial Hospital in Bradenton, Fla, is the first in the region to offer patients the da Vinci Transoral Robotic Surgery for the treatment of sleep apnea and oropharynx, according to a Bradenton Herald news report.

For patients with sleep apnea, the robotic technology reduces obstruction at the base of the tongue. The robotic approach affords greater precision, improved access and enhanced visualization, thus allowing a safer, more effective surgical result.

“Robotic technology and minimally invasive techniques have revolutionized the treatment of head and neck diseases. We are fortunate to be able to offer this service. Having Dr. Kalathia perform these procedures is a great benefit to our patients and community,” said Kevin DiLallo, chief executive officer, Manatee Healthcare System, group vice president, Universal Health Services Inc.
