“Stress is not conducive to sleep,” says Clete Kushida, a neurologist at Stanford University and the medical director of the Stanford Sleep Medicine Center. “It can worsen sleep and also worsen pre-existing insomnia, so it can make it harder for the individual to fall asleep.”
