A St. Louis Post-Dispatch report discusses the proposed legislation in Missouri that would basically ban items such as blankets and stuffed animals that might lead to suffocation or SIDS.

State Rep. Jeanne Kirkton, D-Webster Groves, said the death last summer of Owen Haber, 7 months, while napping under a weighted blanket should be a wake-up call for the state to revise its safe sleep standards.

“The whole thing is devastating all around,” Kirkton said. “My goal is not to be punitive, just to make sure this never happens again.”
