The West Australian reports that hundreds of Australians are being recruited for an insomnia treatment study.

Doctors are looking to recruit hundreds of the nation’s worst sleepers for a new insomnia study.

The study, the biggest ever in Australia and one of the biggest in the world, will try to find what works best for individual sufferers.

More than 2 million adults have trouble sleeping with women twice as likely to be affected.

Academic Jordyn Stuart said the longest she had ever gone without sleep was three days.

“Have you seen The Walking Dead? That’s about it – zombie-like,” she said.

Woolcock Institute of Medical Research member Chris Gordon said scientists were trying to personalise treatment, so so sufferers got treatment for their type of insomnia.
