Cardiologist Stanley Wang says even going 21 hours without sleep is equivalent to driving legally intoxicated, reports CBS Austin.

“People don’t really appreciate how dangerous it is,” said Dr. Wang.

The Governor’s Highway Safety Association found more than 300,000 wrecks are due to drowsy driving and 6,000 people die from them each year. Nodding off at the wheel is called a micro sleep. It’s one symptom of sleep deprivation.
