Somni, a new mobile app, is a digital platform that aims to teach users how to sleep effectively through positive behavior change, according to a USA Today report.

Unfortunately, most college students equate sleep with laziness. Brené Brown, research professor at the University of Houston, put it best, describing “exhaustion as a status symbol” in an interview with the Washington Post.

Somni wants to overcome this mentality by exposing the misinformation surrounding sleep. Not only does Somni track sleep and well-being, but it offers a 21-day course. Somni users have access to digestible videos — typically less than three minutes in length — that synthesize Payne’s research, which shows that sleep is not an inert state, but a time when the brain is highly active.
