Four states across the nation will receive matching funds from the US government for state planning activities necessary to implement the use of electronic health records (EHR), the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced in a series of press releases.

Wisconsin, South Carolina, Alaska, and Kentucky will receive $1.37 million, $1.48 million, $900,000, and $2.60 million, respectively. The funds are part of the EHR incentive program established by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act).

EHRs will improve the quality of health care for the citizens of each state, making care more efficient, according to CMS. Additionally, EHRs make it easier for patients to access the information they need to make decisions about their health care.
