Salary Survey
Incomes are on the rise for sleep professionals.
SALARY SURVEY
 |
For our second annual
salary survey, Sleep Review partnered
this year with financial services company,
Wachovia Capital Markets LLC. A total of 673
sleep professionals in various positions, from across
the nation, responded to our survey. The salary figures are
the respondents' reported base salaries; they do not include
the value of additional bonuses, stock options, or other
incentives.
|
 |
|
The highest average
salaries reported were
around $50,000 in the
Pacific, New England,
and Mid-Atlantic
regions. The number
of responders for
these regions was low, however (under six in each region).* The lowest
average salary reported was in the West South Central. However, there
was no data reported from the Mountain and West North Central
regions.*
|
 | |
The West North Central
saw the highest average
salary at $222,500,
though there were only
two responders in this
region.* With four sleep
physicians responding,
New England reported
the lowest average
salary at $96,750.*
|
 | |
The New England and South Atlantic regions
reported the highest average salaries at
around $71,000 each. At $53,316, the East
South Central region reported the lowest
average salary. New England saw the highest
increase, jumping 39.7%, though fewer than 10
responded in both years. However, the South
Atlantic, with 38 responders for 2007 and 37
for 2008, saw salaries jump about 17.6%, and
West South Central saw an increase of 27.1%
with 22 responders for 2007 and 21 for 2008.* With only 14 and 13 responders for 2007 and 2008,
respectively, the Pacific region saw a decrease in average salary of 11%.
|
 | |
The Pacific region earned
the highest average
salary at $59,063. The
East South Central region
earned the least at
$43,755. Compared to
last year’s survey, the
Pacific region increased
its average salary by the
widest margin, 14.5%*
|
 | |
New England region
salaries reported the
highest at $77,000,
though there were
only three responses
from this region.
East South Central
had the lowest
reported salary at
$44,167.
|
*Overall, our data indicates that salaries for
sleep professions have risen compared to
our 2007 survey. However, it should be
noted that our sample sizes were small in
regard to particular regions and particular
positions in both survey years. In addition,
it is unlikely that we had the same responders
as last year, so an apples to apples
comparison between years cannot be
assumed. For these reasons, we recommend
that readers interpret the data with the
above caveats in mind.
