Portable Monitors

ApneaLink™

ResMed Corp, Poway, Calif, offers the ApneaLink™, a reliable, simple, and cost-effective sleep-screening device used to objectively identify patients at risk for obstructive sleep apnea. With new software, ApneaLink also can detect Cheyne-Stokes respirations (CSR). The basic ApneaLink is a single-channel device that uses a nasal cannula to record. It automatically analyzes and derives AHI, flow limitation, and snoring. ApneaLink automatically generates a simple report for clinician review but also allows for manual scoring of patient data. ResMed's ApneaLink with oximetry provides all the features and benefits of the basic ApneaLink with two additional channels of information—pulse and oximetry.

AURA® PSG LITE

Grass Technologies, West Warwick, RI, introduces a compact, lightweight, ambulatory sleep screener, AURA® PSG LITE, which can be worn by the patient in a comfortable pouch. The screener consists of a high-quality 16-channel amplifier with built-in electrode/sensor inputs and oximeter. The unit is used with Grass' TWin PSG record and review software, as well as TWin companion EKG Holter software. A host computer, using TWin software, starts and stops data transmission and monitors the digitized data. The AURA PSG LITE stores data directly to a removable CompactFlash® card for out-of-lab sleep diagnostic testing. Typical polysomnographic signals are conditioned in the AURA PSG LITE, and then stored directly to the CompactFlash card. Data from the CF card is uploaded for analysis via Grass' TWin software.
