Miclot Secures CEO Post at Respironics
On December 1, Respironics Inc President and CEO James W. Liken will pass the torch to John L. Miclot. Liken, who held the post since August 1999, will assume the newly created role of vice chairman of the Murrysville, Pa-based company.

Miclot most recently held the position of chief strategic officer of Respironics and previously served as president of the Homecare Division for 3 1/2 years.

Liken says the appointment—announced by the board of directors in October—is the result of a succession plan that the board of directors and he have been working on for the past several years.

“[Miclot] has done an outstanding job in his various leadership roles since joining Respironics in 1998,” Liken says. “He has over 2 decades of experience in the medical device industry, and has a proven track record of leading successful market-driven strategies.”

Miclot says that Respironics plans to create “new market spaces” in the sleep arena by focusing on not only people with obstructive sleep apnea but also those with problems such as seasonal affective disorder and insomnia.

According to Miclot, the current senior management team will remain, led by Craig Reynolds, COO, and Dan Bevevino, CFO.

FDA Clears ApLab
Sector Medical Corp, Acworth, Ga, has received US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) clearance for its obstructive sleep apnea syndrome screening device. Called ApLab, the device produces a complete record of breathing during sleep. With this tool, physicians can review the number of apneas and hypopneas, their duration, and other respiratory events, such as normal breathing, snoring, upper-airway resistance, and respiratory arousals. The company has several additional products in the pipeline, including a disposable screening device and a low-cost diagnostic device.

Integrated Sleep Resources Expands Offerings
Integrated Sleep Resources Inc (ISR), Jacksonville, Fla, now offers polysomnographic educational seminars, research facilitation, and individually customized consultation services. ISR began its educational seminars with a technologists board preparation seminar in October and another in early November. The company is offering the seminars in Jacksonville on a monthly basis and on-site at customers’ requests. Next up will be introductory courses in polysomnography technology and sleep record scoring.
