In Scotland, a leading clinician is calling for more to be done to help medical staff take “power naps” during long shifts to cut down the danger of them having an accident on the way home, reports The Scotsman.

This was launched following a tragedy in which an exhausted trainee anaesthetist was killed after falling asleep while driving home.

A recent survey of 3,847 consultants in anaesthesia and paediatric intensive care medicine found work-related fatigue impacting on all areas of life.
