There are many different medicines to help people sleep. It can seem like a bewildering variety. In the new book Understanding Sleeping Pills, Wallace B. Mendelson, MD, draws on his 40 years of experience doing research and treating insomnia to explain how sleeping pills work on the central nervous system and their benefits and drawbacks, as well as alternative non-medicine approaches. The book includes illustrations.
