Healthcare company Sleep Data moved into its new San Diego headquarters in Kearny Mesa at 5471 Kearny Villa Road on February 1, 2017. Sleep Data moves into the 16,000 square foot space that’s been specifically designed and constructed to cost effectively diagnose and treat people with obstructive sleep apnea. The company has grown from 30 employees in 2012 to over 100 in 2016.

“Last year we expanded into two new satellite offices in Chula Vista and Escondido in addition to our already existing San Diego headquarters and Oceanside locations, to provide better and more accessible patient care,” says Bretton Hevener, RPSGT, and president of Sleep Data in a release. “As more doctors and patients become aware of the importance of effectively treating obstructive sleep apnea, our business continues to grow and we’re able to hire more and more qualified people.”

The staff includes RPSGTs, respiratory therapists, and other dedicated patient care coordinators and other support personnel.

“We’ve assembled a management team here that has a passion for seeing the health benefits patients can achieve from appropriately administered sleep medicine,” says chief medical officer Dominic Munafo, MD, DABSM. “When you combine that devotion to the field with the highest level of competence and decades of experience you’re able to create a special kind of care provider.”

In addition to Hevener and Munafo, Sleep Data leadership includes DME [durable medical equipment] veteran CEO David French and growth strategist CTO Tay Nguyen.

Sleep Data provides CPAP machines to patients, and RTs and CPAP coaches work individually with patients throughout their treatment life cycle to encourage and support their successful compliance with the treatment.

Additionally, Sleep Data offers oral appliance therapy as a treatment option through Sleep Alliance, a partnership with Todd Morgan, DMD, ABDSM. Morgan and Hevener together lead Sleep Alliance. “When Bretton and I first began to discuss forming this partnership we talked about how my practice is founded in evidence based medicine, and scientifically proven treatment protocols,” Morgan says. “It so happens that she and Dr Munafo have the same approach so we knew it would be a great fit for us and for patients.”

For Sleep Data each patient’s life cycle often begins with a referral from their doctor for a sleep study. The patients schedule an initial appointment at one of Sleep Data’s four locations where home sleep studies are explained, demonstrated, and supplied to patients for completion overnight in the comfort of their own home. Once the study has been completed and analyzed by a board certified sleep physician, if a positive diagnosis is made, Sleep Data works with the treating physician to design and implement a treatment plan for each patient. The clinical and support staff continue to work with and advocate for each patient for the duration of their therapy. This model works to effectively and successfully treat patients with obstructive sleep apnea for the long-term. Sleep Data has plans to expand into new markets in the future.

Sleep Data was co-founded by home sleep testing providers Joanna Munafo and Jill Minch in Mission Valley in 1995.
