For Infant Mortality awareness month in October, Fox 28 reports that Adena Medical Center in Ohio is giving new parents a safe crib for their newborn.

Parents who don’t have a safe crib at home for their newborn are getting a free one at Adena Medical Center. October is Infant Mortality awareness month, and child birth educators are working hard to teach new parents about ways to prevent sleep-related accidents and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome or “SIDS.”

More than 1,100 babies under age one die on average every year in Ohio. According to the Ohio Department of Health the infant mortality rate is 23 percent higher here than nationally. Adena Medical Center said it is making strides to reduce that.
