The Hutchinson News reports that Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kan, has launched a Safe Sleep Program for new parents.
About one in 10 Kansas babies who don’t live until their first birthday die in their cribs.
To give babies, and their parents, a more restful night, Hutchinson Regional Medical Center has launched a Safe Sleep Program for families of newborns as part of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Awareness Month.
Part of the protection comes in the form of a SleepSack, a wearable blanket that zips up to secure the baby from suffocation. It aims to replace a loose blanket.
“As babies move around in a crib, a loose blanket may end up covering the infant’s face causing suffocation,” Jill White, a registered nurse and director of patient care services for the birthing center at HRMC, said in a statement. “In essence, a SleepSack could be described as a cozy blanket that the baby can’t kick off.”
