On Tuesday, December 2, 2014, Wake Up Narcolepsy (WUN) is joining thousands of other nonprofit organizations in celebrating #GivingTuesday—a day for investing this season of giving with true meaning.

The day after Cyber Monday, #GivingTuesday is about helping others, and WUN is determined to make a difference to help those suffering from narcolepsy. WUN’s goal is to raise $25,000 and gain 100 new donors. Funds will support WUN’s mission to speed narcolepsy diagnosis by spreading awareness of the sleep disorder and will go toward underwriting research to find a cure.

To participate, WUN recommends the following steps:

  • Start a conversation. Leading up to December 2, start a conversation with two friends, colleagues, acquaintances—anyone. Ask them, “Are you familiar with narcolepsy?” In an e-mail promoting #GivingTuesday, Monica Gow, WUN executive director and cofounder, says, “Some will know a little, most even less. Their response will guide your interaction, enabling you to share your own experience with the disorder, or that of someone near to you. What better way to spread awareness?”
  • Ask two friends to join you in supporting our efforts to spread narcolepsy awareness and fund medical research. You can make a tax-deductible donation.
  • Follow WUN on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Pinterest, and share/reTweet #GivingTuesday social media posts throughout November and into December 2. And ask your friends to do the same.
