ResMed today announced that it has expanded its relationship with Brightree, a provider of home medical equipment (HME) billing and business management software solutions. The two companies have agreed to both enhance the existing integration of ResMed’s U-Sleep premium sleep compliance solution within the Brightree solution and add new features and capabilities from ResMed’s AirView patient management system. The first of these enhancements, scheduled to be introduced to joint customers in November 2014, is designed to help HME providers more cost-effectively grow and manage their sleep business. They will also give HMEs the flexibility to choose which ResMed patient management system best suits their needs, U-Sleep or AirView, both of which will be seamlessly accessible within the Brightree solution.

In 2013, Brightree and ResMed began working together to automate the onboarding of patients who use ResMed S9 positive airway pressure devices into U-Sleep. The companies have continued to add innovative capabilities that further automate HME workflows, such as notifications in the Brightree system when a patient has reached CMS compliance guidelines, and reporting patient use for audit purposes or referral source education.

This next step, integrating U-Sleep and AirView into Brightree, provides new and expanded capabilities. Key features soon to be available to Brightree customers using ResMed devices include:

U-Sleep

  • Support for ResMed’s recently launched AirSense 10 PAP devices, including patient boarding, reporting, and compliance notifications
  • Improvements to the patient boarding interface
  • Access to additional reports and improved usability

AirView

  • Access to therapy and compliance reports
  • Ability to board a new patient directly from Brightree, including the patient’s referring physician
  • Ability to “attach” to an existing patient record and store patient details (including the patient start date) inside the Brightree system

Support for ResMed’s AirSense 10 series of PAP devices will allow Brightree users to take advantage of the ResMed HALO (Hour After Last Off) automatic data transmission capability, delivering accelerated access to data within the Brightree platform for patients using these devices.

“ResMed recognizes that many HME providers prefer to operate their business from within a single application, and a significant percentage of the industry uses Brightree as their business platform of choice,” says Raj Sodhi, vice president, ResMed Healthcare Informatics, in a release. “By expanding our integration with Brightree, we will be able to advance our goal of seamlessly delivering sleep and respiratory compliance management data and features where and how our customers want to use them.”

U-Sleep and AirView are part of the ResMed Air Solutions suite of sleep and respiratory products that provide physicians, providers, and patients with the tools and data they need to improve workflow efficiencies and patient outcomes. This suite includes the recently announced AirSense 10 device series, which can provide daily therapy information to AirView and U-Sleep via built-in cellular communication.
