Dr Kelly A. Carden, a sleep medicine expert with Saint Thomas Sleep Specialists, has been named president of the American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM). Carden is also beginning her second year serving on the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM).

The American Board of Sleep Medicine is an independent, nonprofit organization that has a long history of certifying sleep medicine physicians, PhDs, behavioral sleep medicine specialists, and sleep technologists. The certificates are recognized around the world and signify a high level of competence and exceptional patient care by these professionals. Established in 1978, the ABSM works to push higher standards for the sleep medicine, behavioral sleep medicine, and sleep technology fields.

Carden previously served as chairman of the AASM’s Committee on Coding and Compliance, and vice chairman of the Health Care Policy Committee, and was named a fellow of the AASM in 2005 for her accomplishments in the field of sleep medicine.

Carden joined Saint Thomas Sleep Specialists in March 2011 with nearly 10 years of experience working with patients in the diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. She also sits on the Board of Directors of the American Sleep Medicine Foundation (ASMF).
