Last week, a notification to American Academy of Sleep Medicine members from AASM President Patrick Strollo, MD, warned physicians that the 2011 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule would reduce payments for physician services unless Congress takes action.

In the letter Strollo stated, “The Board of Directors is committed to protecting your professional livelihood, safeguarding the field, and ensuring access to quality care for patients. The AASM is taking action to address the Final Rule; several efforts are currently under way by the AASM leadership and staff, and we will introduce more initiatives in the near future.”

The letter also called on AASM members to get involved in order to force the Administration and Congress to act on the 2011 Physician Fee Schedule Final Rule. On November 16, the AASM rolled out a Member Action Network that includes resources for understanding the Physician Fee Schedule and communicating with elected officials and patients about the rule.
